Straight, no chaser

The George Zimmerman Trial, the SCOTUS decision on the Voting Rights Act, Moral Mondays in North Carolina and Rick Perry’s chicanery over abortion in Texas has many thinking that women nor African Americans have truly been considered “equal”. These trying times are enough to make anyone stop and ponder if our country is only made for rich white men who control the votes, vaginas, and victory.
Yet history shows how when people get together to protest, and to fight injustice, how the tide can turn. Moral Monday’s, women in Texas fighting back against Rick Perry’s theocratic policies towards abortion and women’s reproductive rights, and the new fight for the right to vote are all ways in which we can remember that setbacks and struggles will come, but they can not turn ” The long arc of justice” as MLK put it, around. Look at the repeal of DOMA. Let us be mindful as we march towards 2014 what is important, and how we must all continue to work for justice, in whatever ways we can.
